Corby Town went top of the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midland Division with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Boldmere St Michaels at Steel Park on Wednesday night.
A 59th-minute penalty from Reuben Marshall proved to be the difference between the sides in a tight game played out in pouring rain, and the win sees the Steelmen leapfrog Belper Town to go three points clear.

Manager Gary Setchell was glad to claim the three points, but was not overly happy with his team’s performance – particularly in the closing stages.
“That was frustrating, and it is when you don’t kill a game off,” Setchell told @corbytownfc.

“In the first half we dominated possession and they sat in and made it difficult for us.
“In the second half we have done a bit better, and then we got the penalty which Reuben scores, and we probably should have put the game to bed.
“We weren’t hanging on, but we had to defend really well and I felt there were one or two not pulling their weight in the last 10 or 15 minutes, and that could cost you dearly.
“I did say to the lads before the game I would rather have a scruffy 1-0 than play really well and draw 0-0, so I have to probably be a bit careful what I wish for.

“I didn’t enjoy the last 10 minutes, that was tough, but you have to credit Boldmere because they came with a game plan and they stuck to it, nullifying a lot of what we tried to do.
“I think the first half probably took a lot out of them because we kept the ball quite well, and then I could see the chances coming.
“We did, but when you don’t take them, you put yourselves in a position where your centre-halves, full-backs and two holding midfielders have really got to defend right, and everybody else has to put a shift in around that.
“I don’t think we did that as well as what we could have done, and I think our game management wasn’t brilliant.

“But it is three points. We came here for three points; we have got the three points and that now sets us up for another game on Saturday against another good side.
“We have to just keep ticking them off.”
